🎸 Sunday’s Spotlight at Guitar Build Workshop!

Yesterday we had Daniel in the shop — a true Renaissance man and fairly new Nashville transplant. This guy’s résumé reads like a movie: Air Force veteran, stockbroker, engineer for a major steel manufacturer, and even a novel writer.

We joked he’s kind of the Forrest Gump of careers — and fittingly, he’s from Alabama (just not Greenbow, Alabama 😉).

A lifelong woodworker currently condo-living, Daniel’s on the path to rebuilding his woodshop — and after seeing the gorgeous Cherry Cola Burst he crafted with a Maple neck and Maple fingerboard, it’s clear those skills haven’t gone anywhere.

He’s not a guitar player yet, but Theo and I are definitely working on that part. 🎸

First up, we had Theo all the way from the New Jersey/Philadelphia area — in town for a surprise 50th birthday weekend! His partner Tuwisha somehow managed to keep this secret for months and totally pulled off surprise #1: bringing him here to build his very own guitar.

Theo walked in at 9:00 a.m. not knowing what he was getting into… and walked out a certified luthier by evening! For a guy who had no idea what was happening this morning, he absolutely crushed it.

We just hope he doesn’t quit his day job — because, let’s be honest, guitar building doesn’t quite match executive leadership pay — but it sure makes one incredible hobby.

I Know I’m Not Supposed to Play Favorites…

…but I do — and Dex and Laura are definitely at the top of the list.

We had the absolute pleasure of hosting these two again yesterday. Formerly of Indiana and now calling Florida home, they made a detour through Nashville on their way to a cabin getaway in East Tennessee — just so they could hang out and build with us again.

This class was special. Not only did we already know and love them from their first visit, but it gave us a chance to catch up and create something truly one-of-a-kind.

Dex came back with a plan: he wanted to take one of our ambrosia maple hollow bodies and give it the look and feel of a well-loved, road-worn classic. He went with a dark tobacco brown stain, sanded through the high-wear areas, added subtle yellow aging tones, and finished it with a satin top coat and our first-ever aged hardware. The result? Absolutely stunning — and it just might start a new trend here at the shop.

Last time, Laura played the role of Dex’s “general manager.” This time she kept that title and decided to build her own guitar! Inspired by Geoff’s natural-finish build from Australia, she went with a clean, natural look — letting the wood speak for itself. With the extra time she saved skipping the stain, she made sure Dex’s guitar came out flawless.

What a fantastic day with two incredible people. Classes like this remind me how lucky we are to have such amazing students, friends, and ambassadors of GBW.

It’s only been 2,681 days since their last visit — let’s try not to wait that long next time!

Now we’re calling out our friend Chris Sinette to give this one a name — because if anyone can capture this chaos in a single word, it’s him.

Yesterday’s corporate class at the Omni downtown was a highlight in an already packed weekend for GBW—we released eight new guitars into the world and capped it off with a hands-on build hosted by Bank Joy and their business partners. 🎸 Between meetings, we crafted two guitars and shared stories, laughs, and plenty of good energy. Special thanks to my wife Erin for being my right hand all day, and to our event manager Traci for coordinating every detail with precision.

Smithy Jr. stopped by the shop and built an absolute beast of a bass. Greg ran the class and kept things dialed in, but Smithy brought the magic. Word is he’s got a birthday coming up and already planning his next build. We’ll see you soon! Bench is ready.

Kenny came through the shop today from Virginia, wrapping up a Nashville vacation with a stop that really mattered. He’s a die-hard guitar fan—so much so, he named his kids after his favorite brands.

Greg led a killer class, and Kenny went all in: upgraded to our single cut body with a spruce top, pine back, and a rosewood neck that looked and felt incredible. His finish had this deep espresso tone that made the whole thing pop. Might not show up perfectly in photos, but in person? One of the best we’ve seen.

Glad he made time for us on his trip. This one’s gonna be hard to top.
